2010 SA World Cup Draw

Monday, 22nd February 2010 at 12:10pm

The draw for the group stages of the 2010 World Cup produced some interesting match ups; none more so than in group G where five-times winners Brazil face 2006 semi finalists Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo, and the Ivory Coast with Didier Drogba in the so-called 'group of death'.

Seeded European teams the Netherlands, reigning World Champions Italy, current European Champions Spain and England will have all been content with their draws, Argentina face an almost identical group to one it faced in the US in 1994, while host nation South Africa face a tough test against two former World Champions in France and Uruguay, as well as Mexico.

The draw for the group stages, commencing on June 11 is as follows:

Group A:

South Africa, France, Mexico, Uruguay.

Group B:

Argentina, Greece, Nigeria, Korea Republic.

Group C:

England, USA, Slovenia, Algeria.

Group D:

Germany, Serbia, Ghana, Australia.

Group E:

Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, Cameroon.

Group F:

Italy, Slovakia, Paraguay, New Zealand.

Group G:

Brazil, Portugal, Ivory Coast, Korea DPR.

Group H:

Spain, Chile, Switzerland, Honduras.
