Ramires signs new Blues contract

Tuesday, 6th March 2012 at 05:13am

Chelsea's Brazilian midfielder Ramires has signed a new five-year contract with the club which will tie him to the London club until 2017.

Capped 27 times by Brazil, Ramires joined Chelsea in 2010 and made his 50th league appearance foe the Stamford Bridge outfit.

In 71 games for the Blues he has scored 10 goals.

"I am very happy with my new contract. I am very happy with the support I have playing for this club, so I want to say thank you to Chelsea," he said.

The Brazilian has become a fans favourite at Stamford Bridge on the back of some energetic displays that have seen him contribute both in defence and in attack.

The 24-year-old is likely to be a key part of the Brazil 2014 World Cup squad. Ramires normally lines up in midfield alongside Liverpool's Lucas Leiva.
