Former PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona and Brazil superstar Romario gave a victory speech on Monday after taking a seat in the Brazilian lower congress having recently been voted in as a federal deputy in Rio de Janiero.
The legendary striker who helped his country to World Cup glory in 1994 told Brazil's Globo TV Network, "The 150,000 people who believed in me can rest assured that I will become a great politician."
The former superstar, who regularly dazzled crowds at Barcelona's Camp Nou and is now a member of the Brazilian Socialist Party after being elected with the sixth highest amount of votes in the city.
In an interesting quirk of fate, Romario's former international team mate Bebeto, the man who partnered Romario in the finals in the USA in 1994, has also made the move into politics having secured 30,000 votes for the Democratic Workers Party, the current governing party in Brazil.
